I’m Pregnant! Can I get Myotherapy?

Finding out there is a little life inside you can be such an exciting time, but sometimes an anxious period, given that 1 in 4 pregnancies end in loss.

When I first started studying Myotherapy, there were still many old school practitioners recommending no manual therapy for a client in their first trimester. Recently, we have had a number of clients come to us with musculoskeletal concerns yet also felt hesitant to see us, because they were in early pregnancy.

Thankfully, there is no reliable research to demonstrate that treatment is a cause of miscarriage, and it can be completely safe when treated by a competent practitioner!

So what are the considerations?

As a practitioner there are considerations we need to make, depending on how you are feeling. From a physiological perspective - your blood volume increases significantly within the first few weeks of pregnancy, so do you feel hot? The hormone HCG can cause some pregnant people to feel nauseous - what position is going to make you the most comfortable? Hormones may also make you more sensitive to pain - so we will ask for lots of feedback making sure you are comfortable.

The main takeaway is to see a QUALIFIED professional!

Not only will practitioners with pregnancy expertise know how to manage and treat you comfortably and safely, but will also make you feel more comfortable physically and emotionally - allowing you to relax and get the most out of your treatment.

Why get a pregnancy treatment?

  • Reduce stress! Excellent benefits to the nervous system

  • Increases circulation and reduces swelling

  • Reduce pain and achiness

  • Improve sleep and reduce fatigue

  • Reduce headaches associated with hormonal changes.

  • Getting on top possible musculoskeletal issues before they impact daily living.

  • Can improve mild symptoms of nausea.

You and your baby will be safe with us here at CMH. Please know that you can reach out to us if you have any questions, whether it be an email, text, or a phone call!
